Throwing the ball in straight at the lineout should be a given

IS there anybody out there who can explain to me, preferably in words of two syllables or less, the rationale behind the current law variations being trialled in various competitions from the Rugby Championship downwards allowing crooked throw ins at the lineout if the opposition don’t jump or contest the issue? Why on earth would any World Rugby blazer or suit come up with such nonsense?
