Playing a bit of rugby league for St Mary’s College in Twickenham is probably not the answer people expect when I get asked how did I get into professional rugby, but that was the way it was for me. Back in the day (late 90s), we didn’t have the super colleges like Hartpury and academies weren’t a thing, and throughout my time at Rosslyn Park, where my dad coached, I never made any of the England schooboys’ sides.
