Big-hearted Rees risked ruin for his doctor pals

FEW players could possibly have been more revered over the course of their lives than Brian Rees, from the Neath Grammar School 1st XV to Wales, from humble medical student to pioneering surgeon.
He took a well-worn path from his alma mater to Cambridge University, emulating Bryan Richards, Brian Thomas and former England cricket captain Tony Lewis as Light Blues. Of those and others who followed, like ex-WRU president and secretary Dennis Gethin, only Brian captained Cambridge, a feat matched by his younger brother, Geoff.
