Baldwin quits for a life in the City

LUKE Baldwin, who spent the last two seasons with the Dragons, has told he is retiring from professional .

-half Baldwin, who celebrates his 31st birthday just before the new season kicks off, was released by at the end of last season after returning from the Dragons.

A member of the squad which reached the playoff in 2014, he started his career with . He is now planning his next career as a city slicker.

Baldwin says he made up his mind at the start of the year to end his career this summer and go into the City.

“I’m going into financial services, asset management,” he said. “The last few months have been a bit of a slog, if I am honest.

“I knew the writing was on the wall in January, and I started to put plans into place using the rugby network and contacts to get a job in financial services.

“I’m starting in mid- September. It was a combination of the right contract not being there to make it worthwhile carrying on playing.

“Certainly post Covid I hadn’t been playing a lot for the Dragons, and mentally I knew that I was at the end of the road.”
