The story of rugby in South Africa has always been one of haves and havenots. During apartheid, the colour of one’s skin served as an access card to privilege. Those with a higher melanin count were shunted to the fringes. The minority whites were granted access to the best facilities and were the sole beneficiaries of an abhorrent social and political ideology.
