BRIAN Davies survived a stormy debut for Wales at Lansdowne Road in a draw against Ireland marred by an Arctic wind of gale-force. Two months later, in January 1963, he lined up in Siberian conditions at the Arms Park in a lost cause against Richard Sharp’s England.
Again, Davies kept his place and duly helped Wales stop the rot with a win at Murrayfield. Nobody got past the Llanelli centre on an afternoon when Scotland were rendered pointless during the infamous match of supposedly 111 lineouts.
