DO I miss refereeing? I don’t miss the training, I don’t miss the travelling, but I do miss the buzz of being out there in the middle. I’d happily give £50,000 to the RFU just to do another 80 minutes out there in the middle for a Premiership match at what I’d call one of the proper rugby grounds like The Gardens, Kingsholm, Welford Road and The Rec.
You have to give up so much to become a toplevel referee: your family life suffers and, to a degree, your friendships suffer because you’ve got to be so focused....
