IN the early years the USA were a powerhouse and they duly won the inaugural World Cup in 1991, beating England 19-6 in the final.
The shock of the tournament was probably the Eagles’ 7-0 semi-final win over New Zealand while England had shown up well in beating Spain 13-0 in their semi although they couldn’t match the USA’s sheer athleticism in the final.
