A shorter Six Nations would heighten thrills

Until 2003, the Six Nations was spread over ten weeks, with the action taking place on a fortnightly basis. Since then it has taken seven weeks, but now there is talk of the five rounds taking place on each of five weekends. The move is being mooted by the Premiership clubs, and I think it’s a great idea.
The Premiership fixtures played during the Six Nations simply devalue a great competition. It may be good for the league’s stragglers as it gives them the chance to snatch some points against higherplaced rivals weakened by international call-ups, but that’s ...
