Ireland rued their misses off the tee as France survived Gabrielle Vernier’s 20-minute red card to start their campaign with a hard-fought victory.
Both sides scored three tries but Dannah O’Brien failed to convert any of her kicks at goal while Morgane Bourgeois was perfect off the tee, landing all five of her kicks at goal.
