Wales head coach Warren Gatland offered his resignation to Abi Tierney, chief executive of the WRU, after seeing his side crash to Italy in their worst Six Nations performance since 2003.
Wales lost all five of their games in the tournament and Gatland said: “In the dressing room, I offered my resignation to Abi but she said that’s the last thing we want so I’m carrying on.
“I appreciate we are near rock bottom at present but I believe there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel as some of these youngsters will develop into fine inter national players.”
