Steve Borthwick has done the easy bit in picking a 36-man squad for the Six Nations, the hard bit is naming his 23 for the Italy match on Saturday. After a string of disappointing seasons in Europe’s national competition, he has got to get this one right and he knows it.
The tournament launch in Dublin was disrupted by Storm Isha but Borthwick made it over the water but plotting his way through the next seven weeks could be just as rocky as his flight over the Irish Sea.
