New Year’s Day 1913 saw their first victory on French soil when they scored five tries to win 21-3, which is still their biggest winning margin in the French capital. Wing Bill Stewart scored a hat-trick and promptly went and scored four in his next game, against Ireland. But for World War I he might have become a household name.
