Rugby World Cup 2007 was a big-time tournament with a big-time feel with massive storylines to match. France were superb hosts even if, yet again, the authorities had a brainstorm and randomly allowed Wales and Scotland two play their two biggest pool games at home. Cardiff was also granted a quarter-final. It made no sense then and even less sense now.
The narratives were many and fascinating and were enjoyed by a rugby nation that was en fete. French rugby had long been the melting pot of world rugby with players of all nations – large and small – making their lives there. There was a clos...
