LAST YEAR’S Melbourne Cup was won by Cross Counter, trained in Newmarket by Charlie Appleby, and more Brits got their hands on the trophy this week.
Appleby was the first Briton to train the winner of the ‘Race that Stops a Nation’ when Cross Counter got over the line at 8-1 although Ireland had won through Dermot Weld and Vintage Crop in 1993 and Media Puzzle in 2002.
