Italy condemned Japan to relegation from the World Rugby U20 Championship as Dewi Passarella scored a hat-trick to give the Azzurrini victory in the 11th-place play-off.
Though both sides had struggled throughout the tournament, they had been known for starting games quickly and it seemed the early stages would be integral.
