One of England’s all-time greats has backed the RFU over Eddie Jones with one reservation – that they should have sacked him months ago.
Fran Cotton, the only Lion to beat the Springboks in different series as player and manager, told The Rugby Paper: “I’m sure Eddie is a fine coach but what he brought about was total instability. So many players chosen and then dropped after one cap. Giving a player nothing more than one match is almost a failure of selection. It was poor. He became a dead hand in many respects.
