TWO late penalties by flyhalf Tomasso Allan were enough for Italy to hold off a resurgent Japan and tie their two-match series with victory in the second Test in Kobe.
The Italians, who were humiliated 34-17 by an impressive and improving Japan side in Oita last week, had jumped out to a 19-3 lead just after halftime, a much-need buffer when their opponents mounted a spirited fightback in the last quarter.
