AMERICAS CUP
MOISÉS Duque kicked a last-gasp conversion as Brazil made history again by defeating Canada 24-23 on Friday evening to back up last year's shock win over USA.
Rain in São Paulo made for tricky conditions and both teams struggled with their handling, but the Tupis earned full marks by outscoring Canada three tries to two.
In a scene eerily reminiscent of last year's win over the US Eagles at the same venue, Moisés Duque calmly converted a Lucas Tranquez try in the 79th minute of play to give Brazil the lead.
However with just one minute to play the restart was won by the Tupis, but Lucas Duque bizarrely opted to kick downfield rather than keep the ball tight with the forwards and run the clock down.
Canada moved the ball wide in attack as the Brazilian fans held their breath but a knock-on gave the ball back to Brazil.
Brazil managed a clean strike and Lucas promptly hammered the ball into the stands with the referee's whistle at last signalling full time.
Brazil's first two tries came from Daniel Sancery and Moises Duque, while Canada's were scored by Nick Blevins and Gordon McRorie.
It is Brazil's second win this year following a first round victory over Chile.
