PREMIERSHIP assistant referee Nigel Carrick is in training to take on the gruelling Marathon des Sables ‘ultra-marathon’ for the Matt Hampson Foundation.
This April, instead of running the line in top rugby matches, Carrick will take on six marathons in five race days, the longest being about 52 miles long.
If that isn’t enough, they are in the Sahara desert in 40 degree heat.
Carrick said: “I’m hoping to make a positive contribution to help those who have received life changing injuries while pursuing their chosen sport”.
