Marty’s on the money after Siberia

MARTY ‘Money’ Banks, the replacement fly-half who became a local hero when he kicked the winning penalty for the Highlanders against the Lions, is one the game’s colourful characters.
Six years ago Banks, 27, had a season in Siberia with Krasny Yar Krasnoyarsk, and the Kiwi wanderer credits his stint in Russia with allowing his running game to flourish.
Banks is the son of a coal miner from Reefton on the West Coast of the South Island, and played for their senior side at 15 alongside his dad and three brothers.
