Captain’s return helps Ystrad get back on track

CHAMPIONSHIP East leaders Ystrad Rhondda got back to winning ways after their defeat at Bedwas a fortnight ago by seeing off Treorchy 33-6 for their ninth league win.

Captain Jarrad Llewellyn in the back row and hooker Corben Evans scored two tries apiece for the table toppers, who were also awarded a penalty try.

Met moved up to second place after they hit Glamorgan Wanderers for six, 36-17. Max Surry was at the double with Chris Johnson, Connor Chapman, Zak Roberts and Osian Hill also on the scoresheet. Ross McKay kicked three conversions.

Met are nine points back on leaders Ystrad but do have two games in hand – and are the only other side to beat Ystrad this season, winning there 39-32 back in October.

Rhondda next weekend while Cardiff Met are at Bedwas – who won 31-10 at Beddau yesterday. Jak Robbins, Dale Rogers, Hamish Anderson and Aaron Billingham the try scorers.

Llangennech were the big winners in Championship West, scoring 11 tries in a 77-5 win over Crymych. Jordan Saunders and Joseph Hutchings scored twice with Finley Evans, Tom HDavies, Callum Jenkins, Tom MDavies, Craig Thomas, Luke Davies and Steff Marshall also going over. Marshall converted all 11 tries for a 27-point match haul.

Narberth made it a perfect 10 with a 36-16 victory at Trebanos. The win takes the Otters back top of the table.

Elsewhere a hat-trick for -half Gareth Andrew inspired Bonymaen who ran out 39-12 victors at Ystalyfera. Cameron Setter and Luke Darnell were their other try scorers. Dunvant edged out Ammanford 43-37 while in the battle of the basement boys, Maesteg Quins recorded a narrow 21-19 win at Tata Steel.
