GLASGOW gained ample revenge for a humbling opening defeat in Treviso six weeks ago.

No.8 Sione Vailanu was an instant hit on his home debut with a series of powerful carries and a stunning individual try, the first of six for the dominant Warriors.

The ‘Tongan Tank’, a summer arrival from , burst through a ruck on halfway, fended off one challenge and then sold Benetton fly-half Giacomo de Re an outrageous dummy before charging another 40m to the line.

“Everyone was buzzing for him,” said assistant coach Pete Horne. “He has had to be patient for his opportunity but he showed what he is all about and how explosive he can be. Hopefully he can kick on and have a great season.”

Glasgow wasted several more promising positions before a Domingo Miotti penalty made it 8-0 and two quickfire tries before the break put them in firm command.

Argentine pivot Miotti raced onto a Jamie Dobie chip over the top before releasing compatriot Sebastian Cancellliere for the second score and a sweeping move saw Josh McKay put Stafford Mc-Dowall over for the third, Miotti converting both for a 22-0 lead.

Benetton lost Rhyno Smith to the sin-bin for a high shot on Miotti prior to Cancelliere’s try and replacement prop Thomas Gallo earned another yellow card as their penalty count hit double figures. Fraser Brown and Vailanu, with his second try, finished off two powerful lineout mauls to put Warriors out of sight.

Cancelliere had another try chalked off as Miotti’s deft pass was deemed forward, but Rufus McLean chased Sean Kennedy’s quickly-taken penalty to pick up and score Glasgow’s try.
