Doncaster Knights took an encouraging first step towards new MD Emma White’s goal of making them the talk of the town with a record opening day home Championship crowd of 2,056 watching the 20-18 win over Hartpury in round one.
It beat the previous best of 1,839 when local rivals Rotherham were the first visitors to Castle Park at the start of the 2016/17 season, despite Storm Babet wreaking havoc with people’s plans, and was well over double the number who watched last year’s corresponding game.
