VERY gritty was Neil Fowkes’ succinct description of Nottingham’s determined victory over London Scottish on a wet evening at Lady Bay. Nottingham gained a reputation for a counterattacking style last season but this was nothing but rugged and forward led, organised by busy scrumhalf Murray McConnell. Tries in the second half from centre Luke Peters and hooker Luke Cole gave Nottingham a sufficient lead at 17-7 to fend off London Scottish’s late rally.
