ROTHERHAM overcame a spirited display from Esher to extend their winning start to three matches.

The Titans had the cutting edge, conjuring seven tries, but gifted the visitors a couple of scores in a contest that was closer than the scoreline suggested.

Esher were punished for a slow start by shipping three early tries, No.8 Callum Bustin claiming two of them and hooker Jack Bergmanas the other.

Rotherham were then punished for a charge down and a loose pass as second row Will Inglis and wing Stan Norman capitalised.

Star player

Lloyd Hayes -Rotherham

Even though Owen Waters converted both to trim the deficit to 1912, order was restored when Lloyd Hayes twisted his way over and then added the extras to give his side a 26-12 lead at half-time.

Esher really needed to draw first blood in the second half and they did, Harry Faulkner streaking clear to score and with Waters’ conversion, they trailed by only seven points.

Waters missed a very kickable penalty chance to reduce the gap further before a successful attempt for Hayes gave Rotherham some breathing space.

They then sealed the deal with tries for Ronnie du Randt, Luke Cole and Lloyd Hayes, who finished with 23 points.
