Plymouth plan statue for Peters

Plymouth Albion RFC have organised a Go-Fund-Me page to raise money in order to erect a statue of James ‘Jimmy’ Peters at the ground to coincide with the club’s 150th Anniversary in 2026.

Eventually it is intended that the statue be donated to Plymouth City Council and moved to a more prominent position.

Peters played for England in 1906-1908 and it would be another 80 years before another black player, Chris Otie, would wear an England shirt.

Peters died in 1954 aged 74 and is buried in Ford Park Cemetery, Plymouth where there is a beautiful headstone that was arranged by the Twickenham Rugby Museum.

His great grandson plays rugby for Plymouth Argaum. Chris Bentley, the Commercial Manager at Albion, would very much like to hear from anyone or any company/organisation that is willing to assist with fund raising email chris@plymouthalbion.com.
