Birmingham Moseley edged an eight-try thriller after skipper Ollie Stedman capped a virtuoso display with a second-half try double.
The hosts trailed by 14 points at the end of an opening quarter in which Esher’s big ball-carriers dominated the gain-line.
Tries came from scrumhalf Pierre Thompson and prop Theo Skoumbourdis, both improved by fly-half Sam Morley. But the newly-promoted visitors were then hit by 32 unanswered points in 45 minutes either side of the break.
