STORTFORD claimed a vital victory in a hardfought match between two sides battling to put their relegation worries behind them.
Blackheath started the stronger and, despite strong defence from Stortford, they incurred yellow cards to Harry Charter and Dan Smart after 15 and 21 minutes for repeated team offences.
The visitors swarmed onto the attack, but a loose pass inside the Stortford 22 saw Mike Ayrton intercept and run the length of the field for a try, converted by Alfie Orchard.
