Bishop’s St… 25

27

LATE tries from Gregor Gillanders and Benji Marfo turned this game on its head as Rosslyn Park fought back to sneak victory.

Colossal Bishop’s Stortford defence early on, with Jack Scantlebury to the fore, had repelled wave after wave of Rosslyn Park attacks to frustrate the high-flying visitors and twice Stortford sneaked into a three-point lead with penalties from Tom Banks, with a goal to Park’s Greg Lound in between.

Momentum swung clearly Stortford’s way though with tries to Dec Caulfield and Joss Linney both well converted by Banks before half-time.

The first came from a driving maul, with backs joining the pack and the second from good handling by the backs, giving the winger just enough room to squeeze down the outside and run round behind the posts.

With Rob Duff touching down on the opposite wing for Stortford with barely a minute of the second half gone, the game seemed to be in the bag.

But a powerful Park side, showing an impressive mix of determination and skill, turned things around taking ruthless advantage with a try from Henry Spencer on 50 minutes followed by a Harry Leonard penalty.

That put Park right back in contention, and in the last eight minutes first Gillanders and then Marfo went over to secure an unlikely victory.
