MOSELEY arrived at Dillingham Park confident after two good victories in their last two matches, but ended up being edged out by excellent Ampthill.
The visitors took a deserved lead on five minutes after a catch-and-drive out wide, with centre James Williams going over.
Moseley extended their lead soon after as lock Buster Lawrence came up with the ball from the bottom of a maul.
