DAN Lewis’ penalty from half way, awarded deep into added time, gave Cambridge all four points in a local derby that neither side deserved to lose.

George Cullen’s thirdminute penalty set the tone for the afternoon, Lewis kicked for parity four minutes later, and Cullen added another 14 minutes from the break.

Cambridge hammered away on the Stortford line and Albert Portsmouth darted through to touch down after the deftest of nudges from the boot of Lewis, which then kicked the conversion.

Just ahead of the whistle, Matt Tomlinson twisted and turned to touch down after a Stortford siege, with Cullen adding the extras.

Cambridge shaded the second period too, with Stortford’s defence holding firm. It came, though, at a cost – Andy Long’s side gave up too many penalties with Lewis on form off the tee.

He slotted over twice more from around 30 metres and once from 15 – Cullen missing his one from distance.

A home win looked odds on until Seb Brownhill drove over with three minutes left. Cullen missed again but with the visitors leading, time was against the Blood & Sand. Lewis, though, held his nerve from distance to give his side just their second home win of the season.
