SPEED merchant Steve Johns marked his return to Birmingham and Solihull ranks by running in a hat-trick of tries as they beat Scunthorpe 20-15.
It signalled a remarkable turnaround for Johns who missed the entire season after being injured in a warm-up fixture.
Scunthorpe took the lead through a Jake Goodison penalty before left wing Johns opened his try account. Bees skipper Jack Jolly stretched the lead with a penalty before Scunthorpe prop Ollie Cole levelled with a try following a rolling maul, which Goodison converted.
