CINDERFORD narrowly beat Redruth thanks to an impressive first-half performance while the visitors left it too late to come out victors.

The home side’s impressive first 40 consisted of a pair of Luke McMahon penalties in the opening encounters as Redruth were punished for ill-discipline.

Cinderford continued to build into the first half and were awarded with a try for their efforts. After several attempts to pierce the Redruth defence, inside centre Hugo Murray bundled over the line.

The home side looked in cruise control heading into the break as Elliott Southworth finished off a Cindy attack by scoring in the corner with McMahon converting.

With another try for Cinderford after the break, this time by Sam Smith, Redruth seemed out of the contest.

However, they were anything but and the home side’s lead was cut from 23 to 11 points in the space of five minutes.

Tries from Jamie Prisk and Shaun Buzza created understandable doubt amongst the Cinderford faithful.

The momentum had well and truly shifted when Luke Johnson’s stylish score tightened the game ever closer.

However, the home side were able to remain strong to see the game out with four points separating the sides.
