Macclesfield………. 31

Bournville……………28

MACCLESFIELD put the icing on the cake of club celebrations with victory over Bournville.

It was the first home game for Macclesfield in the national leagues since 2019 and coincided with their 150th anniversary.

The home team wore a special kit for the occasion bearing the original colours of the club, but it was the visitors who took the lead after five minutess through the prolific Dan Rundle, and after their tough return to National 2 last week at Camborne the home fans have feared the worst.

But a tense first hal, in which the battle was fascinating, saw Macclesfield lead at half time 14-7 after a maul over with Harry Hughes at the bottom of the pile and a strike move try with Harry Oliver going over from half way. Macc started like a rocket in the second half, scoring at will and forcing mistakes with ferocious defence.

They led 31-7 with 14 minutes to go after tries from Jamie Harrison, Christian Hone and another maul over from Hughes.

A gutsy fightback from Bournville, who dominated the last ten minutes, saw tries from Rundle, Freddie Morgan and Robert Knox made for a nervy finish for the home side but they held on for the win.
