CLIFTON welcomed their Black Country opponents to Station Road for the first time – and made it a challenging experience!

Despite a lot of rain, the firm pitch allowed for running , which suited the home side.

The first quarter just had one try from Myatt, converted by Cozens, as both teams looked for openings.

A yellow card for the West Midlander’s Foster set the scene for a blistering next 20 minutes, and Clifton added three tries through Talbot, and then a brace from star man Ormsby, two converted by Cozens to make it 26-0. The half came to an end with a bonus point already achieved.

The second period started tactically, but a brace of tries from Hamid, converted by Cozens, and then replacement Wells (making his 100th club appearance) sealed the match at 40-0.

However, the visitors’ , which was working well, delivered a platform for their only try from Harrison, which Mann converted.

The Lavender and Black weren’t finished, though, and replacement scrum half Boyland scored in the last minute to end the game. After the match, player-coach Cozens commented: “It’s a pleasing result to start this challenging block of matches. The team camaraderie is spot-on and their work rate is delivering results”.
