Exeter University just edged out Barnstaple.
The visitors struck first through Jonathon Kelly, who darted over for the try.
Barnstaple’s Charlie Banfield was yellowcarded following a string of penalties, and the hosts took no time in taking advantage as Zack Wimbush went over.
The visitors were soon back ahead when George Snell went over from close range.
There was one final moment of action in the first half, as Charlie Turner got himself on the scoresheet following a brilliant finish.
