HULL raced into a 40-7 half-time lead only to see a dramatic Billingham comeback make the score closer than most expected.

The hosts started well, with Finlay Hobson intercepting on Billingham’s first attack to sprint 70 yards for a try converted by Reece Dean after five minutes.

Three minutes later Dean kicked a penalty before Hull immediately extended their lead with a try from Harry Dawkins.

And ten minutes later Peter Hudson-Kowaleicz added try number three.

After Dean landed two more penalties, Hull scored their bonus-point try through Evi Uriburu-Grey, converted by Dean.

As the half drew to a close, Billingham’s Elliott Husband scored a try converted by Peter

Evans, but Hull still had time to add another through Alex Heard, converted by Dean.

The second period could not have been more different.

Joe Scarborough crossed after 64 minutes, converted by Joe Ross, and four minutes later Louie Croark was also over for a converted scored.

Then with three minutes remaining Jamie Lane crossed as Hull held out for their first victory of the season.
