Preston G……………..27
Sheffield Tigers….26
A last-minute converted try saw Preston Grasshoppers snatch the win against Sheffield Tigers.
After dramatic late losses to Chester and Fylde, Hoppers changed their fortune with a late try of their own.
Tigers had the better start when, after four minutes, Louis Redfern-Brown squeezed in at the corner.
The game proceeded to go back and forth before Luke Procter charged his way over.
Greg Smith was shown a yellow for a deliberate knock-on and Mark Ireland scored his first penalty.
Sustained pressure from Hoppers eventually saw Joe Harrison sneaking over and Sammy Russell took the conversion while Smith was in the sin bin.
Tigers then scored two penalties for a two-point lead at half-time.
Both sides traded penalties at the start of the second 40, before ‘ooker Harry Holden got his sixth try of the season from a driving maul.
The game started to become quite edgy and Izaak Gosling was shown a yellow card for a high tackle, before three penalties saw Tigers build a lead of six.
But it was Hoppers who would have the last laugh, when Cam Wilkinson scored off a driving maul, and Smith converted.
