Ionians leave it late to pass Lucs test

THIS was not a classic. Luctonians, on the back of three successive victories, came with high expectations, and despite a paucity of possession and even less territory, held a tenuous lead at the break.
Notwithstanding a competitive second half they finally succumbed to the pressure and gifted Ionians the win.
The hosts registered the first points, a Ben Smith penalty, which was scant reward for an almost complete monopoly of possession.
