But the game was marred by an injury to Preston centre Alex Hurst, who stayed down motionless after a tackle on 21 minutes, and the game was halted for 31 minutes as he underwent treatment on the pitch for a neck injury.
Referee Ben Davis took the players off until Hurst was stretchered off to await the arrival of an ambulance, with reports from the hospital indicating the injury was not as bad as first feared.
