Fylde …29
Hull Ionians…41
A POOR second half saw Fylde fall to a heavy defeat against Hull Ionians.
Two quickfire Lewis Minikin penalties gave Hull an early six-point lead and although Fylde got one of their own through Gregory Smith, they gave away a cheap try as Ben Stephenson broke through the line and touched down.
Thomas Carleton managed to get a try back for the hosts soon after and they ended the half superbly by getting another score from Ralph Dowds, the successful Smith conversion giving them a 17-13 advantage at the interval.
Hull controlled the second half, as poor awareness during a lineout allowed Benjamin Bell to burst clean through was followed by another successful Minikin conversion. Ionians notched again through Minkin, who also converted, though the hosts responded with a well-earned try through Oliver Parkinson.
Hull aren’t top of National 2 North for nothing and responded strongly as firstly James Newman crossed for the bonus point before Edward Falkingham went over for try number five.
Despite Fylde earning a late try and conversion from Connor Wilkinson and Smith, Ionians left comfortable winners.
