SOUTH Leicester claimed their eighth victory this season after a second-half fightback against Chester in freezing conditions.

A searing 60-metre sprint from full-back James Preston got Chester their first points on the board, with James Robins slotting the extras.

Leicester rallied hard, but messy handling set them back. Patrick Marks eventually dotted down and Rickie Aley converted to level the score.

Chester wasted no time in exploiting a week home side defence, thanks to a touchdown from No.8 Kyle Joseph and Robins again making no mistake with the boot.

The visitors continued to turn the screw as they were awarded a penalty, Robins again kicking for Chester, opening up a 17-7 lead in favour of the away side before the break.

One minute after the restart, Leicester charged through the Reds’ defence and Blane Howe dashed over the line.

Chester earned a penalty and Robins replied with a successful kick.

But William Cave brought home a 63 minute try and star man Aley stepped up to convert, pushing Leicester one point ahead.

Both teams battled on, but Chester’s replacement Liam McGovern missed two penalty kicks in stoppage time, one from his own half.
