DORKING prevailed in a definitive game of two halves that featured 95 points and more than a little needle between two sides fielding plenty of familiar faces.

After falling behind twice early on as Worthing disrupted their foes’ structure, Dorking fought back to lead 47-13 at half-time, despite suffering a yellow card.

Bryan Hotston built the platform for Tom Howe to cancel out Jake Rutherford’s opener and Hotston was again pivotal in Dorking’s second score in two minutes, with the visitors crossing four more times before half-time.

But Jack Forrest finished off a flowing multi-phase move to spark a Worthing revival after the break and they won the second half 21-14 – despite two withdrawals before kick-off and a string of injuries – so they’re left with plenty Tommy

of positives ahead of facing fellow basement dwellers Colchester and Sevenoaks.

Meanwhile, only Dorking’s opening-day defeat to Tonbridge keeps them off top spot, thanks to another job done for director of rugby, Amand Roux.

“There was a bit of tension and when the game was done, I suppose the standards of both dropped a bit,” he said. “We need to have a bit more mettle in the way we’re defending.”
