Hosts take heart in battling defeat

Colchester…………..25

DORKING out-scored bottom club Colchester six tries to four, but not for the first time this season there were encouraging moments for the home team.

Three tries for the visitors in the space of 10 minutes early in the second half – from Jonathan Ellis, Tyler Norwood and Joe Andresen – looked ominous for Colchester, who were restricted to a single penalty by Gabe Jones.

But with Dorking openside Tom Bloomer sent to the bin for a high tackle just before the break, and following a talking-to from head coach Craig Burrows, the hosts came to life in the second half.

Callum Jeffery ran in a try from the 22m line after a fine break by Olabooye in the 41st minute, and though Dorking had their bonus point through Andersen’s second try after 50 minutes, Olabooye scored Colchester’s second soon after.

Further tries from Sam Easton and Corey Button raised Colchester hopes.

But every time they looked to have a foothold, Dorking hit back with further tries, first by star man Max Coyle then George Jackson sealing the win with the last play of the match.

It means Colchester had to settle for a bonus point, their fourth of the season.
