Dorking far too quick for Quins

Oxford H………………… 7

A BLISTERING first-half performance was enough to see Dorking take the inaugural league meeting between these two clubs as the Red and Whites’ power up front proved too much for Oxford to handle.

Tries from Tom Bloomer, Max Coyle, Tom Howe and a determined solo effort by Jasper King, two of which were converted by Craig Holland, with a converted try in response by Quins’ Fin Boarder saw the home side take a comfortable 24 -7 lead into half-time.

With Tom Howe adding his second within five minutes of the restart it looked like they would run away with the game.

But Quins had other ideas and robust defence, somewhat missing in the first half, along with aggressive counter-rucking and some Dorking handling errors led to a far more even second half.

Dorking’s defence was made to work hard as Quins found their rhythm and they were unlucky not to score as they recycled the ball.

But Dorking never looked like relinquishing their lead and in the move of the game Max Coyle, having moved from the wing to centre, outsprinted the tiring Quins defence and touched down for his second of the afternoon.
