Guernsey……….37
Westcombe P..26
NEWCOMER Martinas Dromantas shone as Guernsey Raiders saw off the challenge of Westcombe Park.
Both teams started with pace on a running pitch. Ciaran McGann opened the Raiders scoring with a penalty and soon added a try when he won the race following scrum-half Sam Boyland’s chip into the corner. McGann failed to add the extra two points.
The game continued at a fast pace which bought a flurry of tries. Raiders centre Jonathan Dawe struck with a try following a catch and drive after a Park penalty, McGann converting.
Westcombe replied within minutes when No.8 Nicholas Cook’s driving run led to Thomas Burman’s try. Dromantas then struck as he dived on the ball following a missed line-out from Park, McGann again converting.
Westcombe flanker Benjamin Charnock ran through a maul untouched to score under the posts for Toby Wallace to convert.
Raiders’ Jonathan Dawe’s double before half-time included an acrobatic dive in the corner. Raiders soon added another in the second half as James Burger came up with the ball as the forwards piled over. Park struck back through Kieran Thompson and Charnock, but Guernsey held on.
