FOURTEEN-MAN Guernsey edged out Worthing in a tight tussle between the Raiders.

Guernsey opened the scoring within minutes, Dom Rice driven over the line with the help of his fellow pack.

Worthing fought back, forcing Guernsey into mistakes and allowing Louis Ellis to slot over a couple penalties. The try of the match came from Guernsey’s Charlie Simmonds. With a on halfway, Simmonds attacked and opened up the Worthing defence to glide in under the post. Ciaran McGann converted.

Guernsey then lost Tom Ceillam to a red card after 30 minutes, and Worthing’s Louis Ellis slotted one penalty but missed another. Worthing struck straight after the restart, as Kieran Tomlinson finished off a backs move as he broke through Guernsey’s defensive line.

Ellis was on hand to add the conversion.

Guernsey, stunned back into action, followed suit with Simmonds’ quick-tap penalty from halfway stopped just short of the line, but McGann followed up and dived over for a try, with McGann adding the extras to make it 17-16.

Antony Armstrong stung the away team again within minutes when he ran in a try, with McGann adding the conversion to seal the victory.
