Canterbury slumped to a second successive defeat as they picked up a red card en route to a home defeat by Barnes.

A strong first half showing from Barnes saw them lead 26-3 at the break. This came after a strong showing up front with their forwards especially dominant.

Their first score came out wide through Jordan Souter, with Simon Keller converting.

Canterbury responded with a penalty kicked by Frank Reynolds. Another Barnes score saw through Paul O’Dell extended the lead to 12-3. A nice off-load brought more joy with a try by James Bloxham, converted by Keller.

A try before halftime from a peel on the line-out drive secured the game for Barnes, Alex March the scorer. Keller’s successful kick meant that Canterbury were 23 points adrift at the break. In the second half, Canterbury got on the board first with a Guy Hilton score in the corner.

Another great passage of play saw Canterbury’s Dave Irvine crash over on the outside post. An easy kick for Reynolds closed the gap to 26-15.

Barnes stopped the Foxes’ momentum with a try by Cameron Leigh, converted by Keller, and Chris Stegman rounded off the scoring after a Canterbury red card.
