A MUCH-CHANGED Redruth side were made to battle hard for their win by a determined Dings Crusaders.

It wasn’t a classic Redruth performance, but given the upheaval due to injuries, a win and no points conceded must be viewed as great result.

Redruth opened the scoring with a sweetly struck penalty from full-back Will Trewin. Trewin then showed his defensive qualities with a superb try-saving tackle to deny the visitors.

Despite some good periods of possession, the Reds couldn’t add to their tally until midway through the first half. They got an unconverted try from a setplay through on-loan -half Greg Goodfellow, who was making a welcome return to the Rec.

Dings then enjoyed a purple patch, but could not turn it into points thanks to some great defence by the Reds.

Just before half-time, Redruth bagged their second try from a catchand-drive, with hooker Richard Brown driven over. Trewin was once again on the money with a well-judged conversion to leave Redruth 15-0 up at the break.

Conditions became more difficult in the second half and the game became a dour arm-wrestle.
